Wildland Firefighter Foundation
On July 4 we celebrate the United States of America as the land of the free and the home of the brave, so it’s fitting that for this month’s outreach we are supporting Wildland Firefighter Foundation: an organization supporting the brave firefighters across the country and their families. Here on the west coast, we know only too well how much we rely on the work of firefighters. As climate change increases the number of wildfires seen across the coast, firefighters’ work becomes more demanding and exacts a higher toll. And Firefighters do much more than their name suggests. They are also first responders who assist in a variety of situations including car accidents, active shooters, and health incidents like cardiac arrests. We are proud to give back to these people and their families who give up so much to protect others.
Wildland Firefighter Foundation began with one woman who was so passionate about helping the injured and assisting the families of the fallen that she emptied her retirement fund. From this selfless act of generosity, the non-profit organization was born. Today Wildland Firefighter Foundation provides assistance to everyday, extraordinary heroes and their families who are as diverse as the lands they protect. They are federal, state and local firefighters, private sector firefighters, interface firefighters, and volunteers from rural communities and towns across the United States.
In addition to providing assistance to the injured and families of the fallen, the organization also helps maintain and grow the national monument honoring and recognizing the ultimate sacrifice of firefighters. Reaching out to diverse communities, WFF partners with private and interagency organizations to educate the public about wildfires and promote excellence and safety in firefighting. Additionally, they provide onsite crisis support to government and private fire agencies.
Join us this month in giving back to a community who gives so much to protect and serve us. We will be holding a raffle all month long for a beautiful print from our featured artist, Michael Howard.
