During the month of August, for the ‘dog days of summer,’ we’re supporting Pixie Project!

Pixie Project is non-profit animal adoption center and rescue located right here in Portland, Oregon. What sets them apart from other adoption and/or rescue groups is that Pixie Project focuses on finding life-long matches between pet and adopter and takes a hands-on, personal approach to each and every adoption. They strive to find the perfect pet for each adopter, not just getting animals out the door. Their adoption process is a bit more in depth than some other shelters. Pixie Project staff takes the opportunity to sit down and talk with any person or family looking to adopt a new pet so they can best help them find an animal that suits their home and lifestyle.

Sometimes the ‘right’ pet is waiting for you, and other times you may have to search for a while before your canine or feline soul-mate arrives.

In addition, Pixie is committed to keeping pets healthy in their homes for life. They offer low-cost spay/neuter surgeries, as well as access to vital veterinary care to low-income and homeless pet owners, keeping pets out of shelters and saving lives. When pet owners fall on hard times (including, in many cases, seniors living on social security) they may not be able to afford a necessary surgery at a traditional vet, forcing them to surrender their beloved companion to already over-full shelters or consider euthanasia. Many of these animals are seniors themselves who have very limited adoption opportunities. Pixie is able to help keep these owners and pets together by performing affordable surgeries and assisting with medications.

This month we are collecting donations for Pixie Project’s clinic, office, and adoption facilities. Please consider bringing in any of the following items at your next appointment, or just stop by our office any weekday between 9 am and 6 pm. If you have pets at home this is a great way to re-purpose medications or equipment. If you don’t have pets at home, help out by donating operational supplies so that Pixie Project can focus their resources on helping the animals.
