Advice from an ER doctor
Thursday, March 19, 2020
In the interest of ensuring that as many people as possible have credible information about the current situation, we'd like to share the following from a close friend of Drs. Nicole and Shireesh who is a local ER doctor:
If you have cold/flu symptoms (fever, cough, runny nose) you should assume that you have the Coronavirus.
There is currently no treatment for the virus, and 80% of people will not become seriously ill. Because of this, DO NOT GO TO THE HOSPITAL UNLESS YOU ARE HAVING TROUBLE BREATHING.
Tests are highly unreliable. Getting a test is unlikely to benefit you, and going to the ER to get a test will put you at risk of contracting coronavirus.
If you experience flu-like symptoms, it is critically important that you self-isolate for at least 1 week. If you continue to have symptoms after 1 week, continue self-isolation until 72 hours after all symptoms have resolved.
