Our services and techniques

Chiropractic

Chiropractic care is a system of integrative medicine concerned with the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of misalighment of the musculoskeletal system, and the effects of these misalignments may have on the function of the nervous system and general health. Chiropractic adjustments safely manipulate the spine or other joints to promote healthy, normal function of the body. Chiropractic has been shown to effectively relieve pain, promote healthy infant delivery, and improve symptoms of chronic headaches, among other benefits and uses. At Equilibrium we pride ourselves in staying up-to-date on the data, ensuring our practice and methods are rooted in the most recent evidence to improve patient outcomes.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a technique used by chiropractors to improve healing times and decrease swelling/ inflammation.  The doctor will use a transducer or applicator as well as lotion to assist in the transference of the sound waves. Ultrasound is not appropriate for some post surgical areas.

Scraping

This is a technique sometimes used by chiropractors to break up fascia, scar tissue, and mobilize soft tissue. Our providers will use a surgical grade stainless steel tool to stretch the connective tissue and break up scar tissue that is usually associated with trauma (such as a strained muscle or pulled ligament).

Acupuncture

Acupuncture has its roots in 3000-year-old Traditional Chinese Medicine although other Asian countries have adopted the practice as well with their own variations. The US National Institutes of Health (NIH) publicized the safety and efficacy of acupuncture in 1997. The most commonly practiced form of acupuncture uses sterilized needles inserted into the skin at acupoints. In recent years acupunture has gained popularity in the West, particularly in the wake of the opiod epidemic as a safe, effective drug-free alternative for pain relief. Additionally, evidence shows acupunture to be an effective treatment for allergies, headaches, migraine prevention, osteoarthritis, anxiety, and more.

Tui Na

This Chinese technique focusing on the Eight Principles of Chinese medicine. The therapist focuses on the muscle and fascia between the joints using acupressure to help stimulate the body's defensive chi.

Gua Sha

Like scraping, Gua Sha uses the same medical grade stainless steel tool to stimulate blood flow and break up scar tissue. This technique is sometimes performed by a massage therapist with lotion or oil to provide lubrication to the skin.

Therapeutic Massage

Therapeutic massage incorporates a range of modalities that help relieve pain, restore range of motion, and/or work on a specific problem—such as an injury. Depending on your specific condition, you may receive any of the following during your therapeutic massage:

Swedish Massage

The most common type of massage, Swedish Massage is what many people think of when they hear "massage". A combination of long, sweeping strokes and muscle kneading stimulates nerve endings in the skin and connective tissue, increasing blood and lymph circulation. This type of massage is best for relaxation and/ or energizing the body.

Prenatal Massage

Focused on the changes affecting the body during pregnancy, prenatal massage alleviates joint and muscle pain and the stress on weight bearing joints. This technique also increases circulation providing more oxygen and nutrients to both mother and fetus and stimulating the lymph system. In turn, this boosts immunity, removes toxins, and helps stabilize hormone levels.

Deep Tissue

Like the name suggests, Deep Tissue, uses deep, strong pressure to focus on trouble areas. The therapist will often utilize their forearms and elbows to apply firmer pressure. Many people who have been injured find deep tissue helps provide relief.

Sports Massage

Sports Massage is aimed towards athletes and promoting flexibility, relieving fatigue, and preventing injuries. The exact techniques of the sports massage are usually tailored to the athlete's sport of choice. Each therapist will focus on areas of the body that are overused and stressed from repetitive and often aggressive movements.

Craniosacral Therapy

Uses gentle touch to palpate the joints of the cranium to release restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system. Results in deep relaxation and encouragement of the body’s alignment and natural healing ability.

Cupping

Cupping may be used in a variety of treatments. It uses a vacuum, created either by fire or a plastic pump, to suck the skin and underlying tissue up into a glass or plastic cup. The pressure break ups scar tissue and relieves pain associated with tight muscles and fascia. For additional therapy, the cups can be moved along the skin to break up larger areas. Bruising for a few days following the treatment is normal and will dissipate.
