Darah is a Portland based ceramicist. Originally from the Midwest, Darah grew up in Minnesota and Wisconsin and has been living in the Pacific Northwest on and off since 1999. She is currently a Ceramics teacher at Portland Community College and a mom of a nine-year-old.
Darah says: “My work reflects the unconscious parts of exploring life for the past 44 years. I don't know where the ideas specifically come from but I know they are a reflection of the unique glasses that I look through to see the world around me. I am a curious human and I really enjoy living slightly outside my comfort zone. I really think that this is where I thrive and tend to view things just a little different than the average person.
I like to break the rules and I don't particularly like being told what I can and cannot do. I think that my work reflects all of these things. My comfort zone is tight and machined and controlled. I strive to hang out outside this safe space and create in my squirmy and slightly uncomfortable, awkward spot.”
These beautiful and functional ceramics are intended for everyday use. These wares prefer to be hand washed with care but also can handle the dishwasher and all work is microwave safe.
Darah’s work will be available at Equilibrium for the Spring season. Come check out her work!
