Monday is Veteran’s Day, an observance of the service of the men and women in our Armed Services who do unimaginable work to serve our country. Unfortunately, after their service many veterans struggle to return to civilian life, and although they are entitled to many benefits by virtue of their service, the systems can be difficult to navigate and access. This month we are proud to support a local oragnization that helps veterans connect to the services and benefits earned by their service: The Veterans and Families Resource Center (VFRC) of Oregon.
(VFRC) is a nonprofit, and non-political, organization that strives to create and maintain an ongoing relationship with veterans and their families to keep pace with their needs. The VFRC is staffed by veterans and family members of veterans. As such they are valuable resources of social and emotional support. VFRC staff provides personalized assistance, helping veterans determine what programs they may be eligible for, and how to navigate those systems. Employment, housing, mental health, and transportation are just a few of the areas in which VFRC offers assistance. They also offer emergency food items to veterans and their families and provide hygiene items to homeless and/or transitioning veterans.
Please join us this month in giving back to those who have given so much. We are collecting hygiene items and food pantry items to donate to VFRC in support of Oregon veterans. If you are so inclined, please bring items from the following list to your next appointment:
