Fore all the golfers in the audience, we’ve got an exciting weekend to share with you!
The first weekend in August, 1st through 4th, brings us The Portland Classic LPGA golf tournament! Hosted by the Columbia Edgewater Country Club, and featuring one of the most competitive fields in the LPGA tour, this weekend is sure to inspire and delight!
Even if you’re not an avid golfer, there’s something for you too. The Women’s Leadership Summit is happening on Thursday, August 1st. Now in it’s 9th(!) year, this conference focuses on engaging and empowering female leaders in fields beyond athletics. Key speakers include CEO of Catalyst Studios Holly Levow, and LPGA commissioner Mollie Marcoux.
For the family, there’s a youth tournament Saturday afternoon where junior golfers compete on a par-3 course against girls in their age groups, ranging from 8-18. The junior tournament provides a fun competition environment where young golfers can play and also get photos and autographs from world-class LPGA athletes. Families of players in the junior tournament get free admission to The Portland Classic!
This is a great opportunity to encourage girls and young women’s participation in sports, and for them to meet role models and be inspired to achieve awesome things!
Kids under 8 can still have fun playing with Discover Golf and their mission to foster play-based growth. And they can hit tennis balls at things; always a fun time when it’s not happening in your living room!
Seven-time national champion, collegiate coach and author Mary Jo McCloskey (“Coach MJ”) will be at the tournament giving away copies of her book “When Girls Win.” This highly rated book features stories and advice on mental toughness and overcoming setbacks to achieve success. While she writes from the female athlete experience in a male-dominated sport, it’s definitely not just for girls only!
The Portland Classic also features unique food carts (because everyone loves a good snack) with delicious bites and quality beverage options, as well as free sno-cones for kiddos (under 17 only, darn!)
If you’re feeling inspired by the amazing ladies at the Portland Classic, or experiencing a hitch in your own golf swing, schedule an assessment appointment with our TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) certified chiropractor, Dr. Shireesh Bhalerao, to help you get back in the game faster. TPI practitioners are trained in analyzing golf-specific movements, learning how a player’s swing is impacted by restrictions in their body, and providing injury assessment and rehab techniques tailored to each individual. TPI believes in supporting the Body-Swing Connection to help players swing their clubs in the most efficient way possible for their unique bodies. We’re here to help you be your best, healthiest self.
