2020 may have been a bummer year (to say the least) for humans, but for many pets at home 2020 was the best year ever! Humans were home much more often, with more time to spare for training, play time, and walks. Many people added furry family members during the pandemic. 58% of new pet owners cite companionship as the main reason for getting a new pet. Pet owners say they’ve benefitted from reduced anxiety, stress, boredom and depression because of their pet over the past year. However, for some pet owners the pandemic imperiled their ability to care for their pets. Nearly two-thirds of pet owners report increased financial hardship and concern about affording basic pet costs, and 13% surrendered their pet in 2020. About 30% of pet owners and their pets could have benefitted from short-term financial help and/or access to support services.
The Pixie Project does just this, providing low-cost veterinary services to help keep pets in loving homes and prevent owners from surrendering their beloved companions due to financial hardship. In addition, The Pixie Project focuses on finding life-long matches between pet and adopter. Their adoption process is more in-depth than most adoption facilities, ensuring that the match is one that will benefit the needs of the humans and pets involved.
From Pixie Project:
“We’re a small group that makes a big impact. We perform more than 1000 surgeries in our clinic each year, plus exams, bloodwork, and diagnostics for those in need. We’ve seen that even the most dedicated pet owner can go through a rough patch and everyone deserves a little help to keep their families together.
By granting access to this care, our goal is to keep life-long pets in homes with dedicated owners. This keeps hundreds of animals, many of whom are seniors, out of the shelter system and out of pain.”
During the month of June, we’re celebrating the animals that got us through 2020 by matching all in-office financial donations to The Pixie Project. The Pixie Project is a non-profit that relies on the generosity of the community to do their work. They also accept pet supplies, medication, and operational supplies. Donate financially in-office for a matching donation from Equilibrium, donate directly to Pixie Project online here, send them items from their Amazon wish list directly here, or bring any of the below items to Equilibrium at your next appointment to be donated to Pixie Project!
